9.30.11 ... scout at age 6

9

today we started going through our life tubs. and we had such fun finding all sorts of photos, cards, souvenirs, newspaper clippings and, most of all, art. i loved finding this, which i had forgotten all about. scout made this homemade and original version take-off of pin the tail on the donkey for her 6th birthday party. and here it is, replete with all of the tails she made taped on by all of her sweet little friends, just as they were that warm june day in 2002.

9

how creative and fun is this idea? it was all hers. there's a lot more to come. hope your day was lovely. and your memories as sweet as ours.

sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

9.29.11 ... whale bites

9

and so does mr. whale.

9.28.11 ... recycled laminated map package

9

i can't show what i worked on today so ... the other day i made this package out of a laminated map. it works so nicely because it is strong like a box but a lot lighter. this one is going to australia and the postage was a factor. inside this package is the item safely padded and tucked in a tea box, which is then wrapped in a thick layer of giant bubble wrap.

9

plus, it has the added factor of sending a little bit of texas sunshine and personaility across the globe.

9.27.11 ... vintage buttons all in a row

9

last week we went to fred and i found a button here and a button there. it was like finding a needle in a haystack. but some of them are pretty cool.

9

i love these old button cards. there's one with a pine tree scene. it's my favorite. they are so old that they are disintegrating. the prices give us a clue as to their age. honestly. a card full of buttons for .29 or .39?

9

i love the teeny tiny purple cluster. i couldn't believe i found those in that giant bin filled with junk.

9

the ships are intriguing.

9

a nice woman saw scout and i hunting for these and said she had a basket full of crafty items she'd found and she went and got them and handed them to us. it was so refreshing. i wondered didn't she want them and she said she only took them to save them because they were about to remove that bin and they would all go to the dump. i love that. it is something i would do. oddity loves company. you know that saying, don't you? sadly, we only chose a few small things, but the bins we left the remainder in were not going to be pulled right away. hopefully someone came along and loved them. she did have a huge plastic bag filled with smaller, sealed bags of matching buttons. i will show those another night soon. they are really nice. i think they are old also.

9

there's the pine tree card - the navy blue one with 10 cents on it. it is so fragile. i had fun arranging them and look forward to using them on what i know will be special projects.

9.26.2011

9.26.11 ... mi familia

9

we had a visit with our little riley yesterday. scout took this gorgeous photo of our beautiful new grandson. too cute.

9

i took this one. i love the way he looks up at her. as an aside, how groovy are scout's wrap bracelets? she designed this style last week and has made a few. they are comprised of favorite old t shirt strips. she made one for me, too. love them.

9

the occasion was lion king in 3d and i took this outside of the theater before they went in. scuppernut, bear and scout. i do have a beautiful family.

9.25.2011

9.25.11 ... peanut poem

9

if you follow my nightly posts you may recall that i created a peanut themed treasury a little while back. one of the featured etsy shop owners and i conversed a bit and discussed our mutual love of peanuts. and it turned out she is right here in austin. so i remembered this little autograph book poem that i found in a vintage book on that subject. and that i had illustrated peanut people and used the resulting combo for valentine cards. so i found my sketches and made the card you see here for my new peanut friend. and while i was looking through my papers i was surprised to see i'd once clipped this piece...

9

so i used it for the reverse. came out sweet, no? have a wonderful new week my readers.

9.24.2011

9.24.11 ... besos

9

happy saturday everyone. today i sorted my new vintage button finds. i took photos but don't have time for that batch today so here is one i took recently. it's our oldest cat, besos. her name means kisses in spanish. she is almost 13 years old now. wow. i cannot believe that. luckily, she is still like a kitten. as you can see, we take good care of her. she is content. wouldn't you be if this was your afternoon past time? looking forward to saturday night live with alec baldwin tonight. i hope this year is better than last.

9.23.11 ... tazo tea paper pockets

9

i've been working on paper projects on and off all week long and i finished up a few today. this is one group. i love to create something out of mismatched odds and ends. tazo tea bag papers become little pockets with personality.

9

you can use them for many organizational challenges.

9

you can prop them up on a shelf or windowsill and just enjoy them as little bright spots in your day.

9

you can tuck love notes or money surprises into them and send them on their way in a lunchbox or greeting card.

9

you can keep business cards in them. tiny bookmark collections. stamps. the list goes on and on. what would you keep in yours? do you have a favorite here?

Scoutnewsboy4

Scoutnewsboy1

i love the sunshine in this one. and the light is lovely too. :)

Scoutnewsboy2

she's contemplative.

Scoutnewsboy3

she thinks deep thoughts.

Scoutnewsboy5

she's into isometrics.

Scoutnewsboy6

she's one good lookin' newsboy.

9.21.11 ... blue minute

Screen_shot_2011-09-21_at_10

tonight i made this treasury using scout's method of a ten minute goal. naturally, i did not achieve that. it's me we're talking about. but i did create it super fast and i had a good time. found some pretty things that all look teeny tiny sweet all together. you can visit it HERE

9.20.2011

9.20.11 ... paper projects and serendipitous gravity

9

today i played with paper bits quite a lot. this is one i enjoyed. i clipped this little bit out of a yankee magazine years ago. the background is the back of a card a friend sent me about a year ago. they go together nicely, eh? i matched up a small group of images and backgrounds today. tomorrow i will turn them into something or other. it's been a while since i've done this. it was fun seeing all of my clippings.

9

i was packaging up this magnet set and turned the knowledge is power paper into a bookmark.

9

i cannot resist this. if i tried to do this i couldn't do it easily for sure. but it just happened this way and i thought it was fun so i snapped a picture. i hope your day was lovely.

9.19.2011

9.19.11 ... a sweet cookbook bookmark and 200 sales celebration

9

i have had a good day filled with a number of small projects. i'll share this one and come on back for the others over the next few days. i had fun with this. it's been a while since i made one. if i had the chance, i would have no problem making these for a career. i love that they are simple, recycled and never the same thing twice. the possibilities are endless. we all need that.

9

my joonE etsy shop just reached 200 sales this past weekend. joonbeam is not far behind at 197. i hope to be placing that photo here soon. scout took this one for me:

200sales

i especially love that i have 222 items for sale here - scout was born at 2:22 and it is a special number to us. and that i am in 89 circles. 89 has been my favorite number since i was knee high to a number line. sweet dreams, everyone.

9.18.11 ... repurposed recycled

9

i can share this recycled envelope now that it has reached its destination. then on another day i can share what i worked on today. this lovely work of art came to me from a dear friend and i had to save it for another journey. i simply added a few of my own touches and it was on its way once more.

9

this is the reverse of the envelope corner bookmark i made.

9

and this is the front. watching the emmy's and enjoying scout's delicious homemade cake. you can see her cake here:

9.17.2011

9.17.11 ... recycled postcard bookmarks

9

i received this postcard in 1999 from a dear friend who was in paris.

9

it's been on the brink of becoming something new many, many times since then.

9

but today it happened.

9

now the joy it has brought to me will be spread to others.

9

i love both of the yarn/threads used for these tails. i hope they last a long time. i have no idea when i will stumble upon two more like these.

9.16.2011

9.16.11 ... scout's animation take one

6

inspired by her hero, mr. walt, seen here with his own movie camera, scout made her first animated bit today. i wanted to embed it but we're not sure how to do that and i am really tired so i will include a link. i'm using this as my creative post for today because she had some crazy technical issues and we couldn't solve the mystery. then i decided to google the question and, miraculously, lucked onto a detailed process for getting around the nutty iphoto glitch. hooray. so i helped. i also worked on a number of other creative projects but none of them completed or worthy of a photo.

Here's the scout creation link:
hope you all enjoy it.

9.15.2011

9.15.11 ... reconstructed clothing project

it's just the beginning but thought i'd give you all a teaser of what is to come.  this is a piece of a vintage handmade dress.  i adore the paisley pattern.  paisley and aqua tones are two of my favorite elements.   we'll see what transpires.  stay tuned.

Screen_shot_2011-09-14_at_10

this is my spur of the moment treasury after i asked ev and scout for a theme QUICK! and then rejected both of their kind offers under duress. i like how it turned out, though, so all is well.

9.13.2011

9.13.11 ... polly o'peara

9

i did finish my second embroidery project today. and here she is.

9

i may leave her like this in her hoop or i may have ev make me a square frame out of reclaimed wood scraps. we'll see.

9

i am not sure what my favorite element of this one is. but the pearl necklace is killing me.

i have plans to make some other gals and guys so keep an eye out for more of my garden variety.
